FOCUSING ON KEY COMPETENCES FOR LIFELONG LEARNING
As we already know, since the beginning of the 21st Century, the teaching process is still organized in SUBJECT AREAS, but the aim of education is not to memorize concepts related to those areas anymore: The aim of education is to help the youngsters to perform effectively in what the call the Knowledge Society.

The Council of the European Union adopted a Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning in 2018.
The Recommendation identifies eight Key Competences needed for personal fulfilment, a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, employability, active citizenship and social inclusion.
These Key Competences include knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are acquired along our whole life, but mainly along the Primary and Secondary Education stages.
Have a look at them and try to state, intuitively, and according to your own values WHAT MAY BE SOME OF THE ABILITIES THAT SHOULD BE DEVELOPED TO BECOME COMPETENT IN EACH OF THESE AREAS:
• Literacy
• Multilingualism
• Numerical, scientific and engineering skills
• Digital and technology-based competences
• Interpersonal skills, and the ability to adopt new competences
• Active citizenship
• Entrepreneurship
• Cultural awareness and expression
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE POSSIBLE ANSWERS:
Literacy: Understand different types of written messages (instructions, job offers, public warnings...); communicate by written means in different contexts and with different purposes (text a friend, fill a form...)
Cultural awareness and expression: Know how to say hello and good-bye in a place you have never been before, be aware of the business hours in a small village to get some food...
etc.
You go on. In pairs or groups, still better.😊
